Peggy's Obituary

Peggy Annette (McKay) Pattillo passed away on July 20, 2024, at the age of 80, after fighting courageous health battles. She was surrounded by loving friends and family in the months, weeks, days, and hours until her passing.

Pegs was born on July 15, 1944, in Geary, Oklahoma, the daughter of Cecil and Anna (Buck) McKay. She grew up in Geary, attended Geary schools, and was raised in the Mennonite Church of Geary.

After graduating high school, Pegs attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) in Weatherford, Oklahoma. She then moved to Bethany, Oklahoma, where she worked for multiple businesses, including Continental Plastics. While working there, she met her precious lifetime friend and husband, Jimmy Ray Pattillo.

Jim and Pegs were married in the Mennonite Church of Geary on February 3, 1973. In their younger years, they enjoyed traveling in a Volkswagon van to the Colorado mountains and to visit Jim’s family in Texas.

They were both train enthusiasts and often traveled the country to view different railway settings. One of Peg’s hobbies was charcoal sketching, and her passion was drawing those railway settings they visited.

Another hobby Pegs enjoyed was a passion for cookbooks. She would mine them for interesting recipes that she could try out on Jim, whom she referred to as “Eatus Anythingus.” After retirement, Pegs started writing weekly columns, "Pegs Pantry," that was published in the Geary Star, Watonga Republican, and Union City Newspapers. She would routinely refer to Jim by his endearing nickname in those articles.

Pegs was preceded in death by her parents Cecil and Anna (Buck) McKay; husband Jimmy Ray Pattillo; sister Roslyn (McKay) Arranz and her husband Vicente Arranz; brother Bob McKay; sister-in-law Jane Ellen (Green) McKay (wife of Peg’s brother Melvin McKay); brother-in-law Jesse Ellis (husband of Peg’s sister Kathy (McKay) Ellis); her brother and sister-in-law Pat and Pat Pattillo; and her beloved mother-in-law Verna “Bat” Pattillo.

Survivors include Melvin McKay of Hayden, ID.; Janelle (McKay) Starr (daughter of Melvin McKay) and her son Ryan Starr of Hayden, ID.; Kenneth and Jodi (Crist) McKay of Norman, OK.; Kathy (McKay) Ellis of Cyprus, CA; Stanley and Maria McKay of Peru; Cousin Sharon (Ward) Gates and her husband John Gates of Watonga, OK.; and two former relatives Chern McKay of Oklahoma City, OK. and Lynn McKay of Oklahoma City, OK.

Additional Survivors include many treasured and deeply devoted nieces and nephews who were continually present during the final part of Peg’s life’s journey. Of mention are Brett and Alice Pattillo; Mike and Lorain (Day) McKay and their daughter Jordan (McKay) Voss; Stacy Pattillo and her daughter Leann (Michael) Noguera; Kurt McKay; Claire (Pattillo) Colbert and her daughter Kelsey (Colbert) Burns.

Graveside services will be held at the Geary Cemetery on October 20, 2024, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a reception at 10:30 a.m.
