Deanna Kay (Thomas)(Owen) LaRue of Glencoe, Oklahoma, passed away on December 27, 2023, in Oklahoma City, OK. She was born on September 23, 1943, to Waldean and Anna Lee Thomas. Deanna was a giving, happy, and sharing person who will be deeply missed by her loved ones.
Deanna is survived by her brother Chuck (Tommy) Thomas and sister Nancy Doran. She is also survived by her children Troy Owen, Brian (Lindsey) Owen their children Conner, Macey, Kyle, Caden and Camden, Brett (Tara) Owen their children Lily and Luke, Darin (Michelle) Owen, and daughter Anne (Pat) Abel, their children Asley, Christopher, Thomas, Lindsey and Halle. Deanna is also survived by her longtime companion, Don Staley.. She leaves behind 3 great grandchildren, 4 nephews, and 1 niece. She was preceded in death by her parents and son Eric Dean Owen.
Deanna grew up in Goodwell OK and graduated from Goodwell High School. She moved to Oklahoma City in 1962 and began working in administration at the Head Start Program. Her career path quickly changed to “Mom” after the births of her five boys. She was extremely happy with this role, always engaging in their sports and activities. Deanna was featured in a Mother’s Day article in the Daily Oklahoman in 1974 when Troy was delivering newspapers. Deanna was primarily a homemaker but did also work at Enterprise Bank and at Insurica Insurance. One of her past times was country line dancing which is how she met Don. She retired from Insurica Insurance in 2013 to move to Glencoe to be with Don. She quickly became a part of the Glencoe community and a supporter of their basketball team. Don was never able to convert her from being a lifelong OU Sooner to his OSU Cowboys. In 2020 she was thrilled to find out about her daughter, Anne, finally meeting her in October of 2022. In 2023 Deanna celebrated her 80th birthday with all the family present at her favorite hamburger spot, Johnnie’s. Johnnie’s was always a gathering spot for the family when she came to the city.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Glencoe, OK, where she found solace and strength in her faith and was rebaptized in June of 2014..
A funeral service will be held at Demuth Funeral Home on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 2pm. with burial at Spring Creek Memorial Cemetery, 14300 N. County Line Rd. Pastor Irvin Haken will be officiating the service.
Deanna will be remembered for her generous spirit, happiness, and willingness to share with others. She touched the lives of many and will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew her.
