Edgar's Obituary

Edgar Lee Nix has fought the good fight, has finished the course, has kept the faith, and has gone home to be with his heavenly Father.

Ed was born March 22, 1927 in Centralia, Oklahoma to James Oscar Nix and Daisy Lorena Armour Nix and was the youngest of their nine children. He was proud of his partial Cherokee heritage. Throughout his life, he lived in various cities in Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico. He passed from this life on November 9, 2022 in Yukon, Oklahoma.

He loved the Lord and for many years served as an elder and teacher in the Church of Christ congregations wherever he lived. He was a member of the North MacArthur Church of Christ in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He and his wife Alta May read the Bible daily during their 77 years of marriage. He especially liked studying the life of the Apostle Paul, Paul’s journeys, and correlating the journeys to the epistles.

His family was most precious to him. He took great care of Alta May and looked after his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with love and concern. He was always quick to give help and support when needed.

Ed worked for Swift & Company as a sales representative and manager winning many sales awards from 1948 to 1980. He then got his contractor’s license and built custom homes with his son Richard. He enjoyed building furniture having built a desk and chair and a maple hutch cabinet in high school shop class.

While living in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the family built an A-frame cabin near Chama, New Mexico that was a favorite get-away. Ed enjoyed fishing for rainbow trout in the nearby Brazos River in the summer. And in the winter would hike into the cabin in snowshoes.

Ed loved watching many professional, college, and amateur sports. He enjoyed attending his son’s, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s games. He also enjoyed watching the New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals baseball, Dallas Cowboys football, Oklahoma City Thunder basketball, and Oklahoma college football, basketball, and baseball.

He was always a whiz at numbers and brain games. He and Alta May daily worked the crossword, Sudoku, and other puzzles in the paper. And he was quick to tell you that there was nothing wrong with his brain! He also was in good physical shape and was pleased that he was able to maintain his own lawn, as recently as this past summer.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 77 years, Alta May; two children – Carol Jean Norris and James Richard Nix (wife Adeline); six grandchildren – Amy Ramsey (husband James), Angela Chiriboga (husband Freddy), Amber Fuerstenberger (husband Mark), Robyn Keele (husband Micah), Sandi Doyel (husband Colby), and Timothy Nix (wife Elizabeth); and fifteen great-grandchildren – Emma Allen-Morgan, Mark Gaer, Jamie Gaer, Gabby Chiriboga, Marcie Chiriboga, Cole Ramsey, Hannah Keele, Jonah Keele, Abigail Keele, Zoie Doyel, Landin Doyel, Declan Nix, Clara Nix, Liam Nix, and Aiden Nix.
