Joan's Obituary
Joan Curtis McMillin was born on March 31, 1931 in Dallas, Texas to Earl McKenzie Curtis and Dena Bobbitt Curtis and passed away on April 21, 2021. She grew up in Tyler, Texas and moved to Oklahoma City in 1964 from Longview, Texas. She married H. Robert (Bob) McMillin after her freshman year of college. They had a daughter Donna Bowers Burmeister of Grand Blanc, MI and a son Robert Michael (Bob) McMillin of Shawnee, OK.
Joan loved being a homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. After her children became teenagers she finished her college education. She graduated with a BBA from University of Central Oklahoma, and then earned an MBA from Oklahoma City University. She managed her husband's office at Ridgway’s for many years. Later she worked as a contract specialist and contracting officer at Tinker Air Force base and as an adjunct instructor at OSU OKC and Rose State College.
Joan was a Camp Fire and Cub Scout leader for her children, Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher, Oklahoma Hospitality Club member, Wedding Ring class and circle member, book club member and taught bible study for years at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Joan was especially fond of cooking for her family and friends, playing bridge, traveling and reading Bible history.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty five years and is survived by her daughter Donna of Grand Blanc, MI, son Bob and his wife Janet of Shawnee, OK, grandson Beau McMillin and wife Blair of Edmond, OK, grandson Blake McMillin and his wife Brynn of Dallas, TX, grandson Michael Bowers and fiancée Caitlin Hendley of Berkley, MI, three great granddaughters,(twins) Maddy and Bailey of Edmond, OK and Joplin of Dallas, TX and great grandson Sam of Dallas TX, two nieces Suzanne Birdwell of Wills Point, Texas, and Colleen McCall of Dallas, TX and nephew Mike McMillin of Dallas, TX.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to a charity of your choosing. Graveside and internment was at White Rose Cemetery in Wills Point, Texas.
