John Passed away on June 5, 2022. John was born August 2, 1939, in Oklahoma City, the son of John Cannon Pearson Jr. and Ila Durham Florence Pearson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 10 years, Dixie Day Pearson of Edmond, Oklahoma.
John grew up in Oklahoma City and Ardmore, Oklahoma, graduated from Ardmore High School in 1957 and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1962.
John’s business and civic service took him all over the world. He served as a 2nd lieutenant in the United States Army in 1962 including a tour in Korea. In 1964 he took over as President and chairman of the board for Guthrie Cotton Oil Company after the death of his father, John Cannon Pearson Jr. and he served in that role until 1999.
John had many affiliations with civic and industry associations including The Oklahoma Department of Commerce as Chairman of the Waterways Advisory Board, Director and Past President for Oklahoma Grain and Feed Association, President of Mid-South Grain Shippers Association, Chairman of Logan County Economic Development Council, Past President of Logan County Historical Society and served as Mayor of Guthrie, Oklahoma from 1989-1991. He was also a member of Rotary Club and Jaycees and received the Commanders Award for Public Service from the Department of the Army.
John is survived by his three children, John Cannon Pearson Jr. and his wife Julie Pearson, Thomas Donnellan Pearson, and William Boggs Pearson, his grandchildren; Brianna Lee Pearson, John Cole Pearson and Ashlyn Faith Pearson (children of Cannon and Julie Pearson of Corona California), his sister Ann Pearson Leftwich of Oklahoma City, nephew Donald Leftwich and his wife Donna Stephenson Leftwich of Nichols Hills, OK, and his niece Maryann Leftwich Walls of Edmond, Oklahoma.
John was a long time member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Guthrie as well as active in prison ministry at Joseph Harp Correctional Center. In lieu of flowers please consider a gift to one of these.
A Memorial Service for John will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Guthrie, Oklahoma on July 2nd, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.
