Linus' Obituary
Linus Lee Affolder, 94, passed away on December 14, 2024, in Oklahoma City, OK.
Linus was born on March 17, 1930, near Wolcottville, IN to Henry and Catherine “Pearl” (Lambright) Affolder. Linus attended school in Wolcottville, graduating in May 1948. During his school years he performed in various school plays and enjoyed sports including softball, basketball, volleyball, and track. He was honored to hold the county record for the 4x400 relay. Being a National Honor Society Member was an immense joy for him.
From 1948 – 1952, Linus attended Indiana University, graduating with a business degree in accounting. During his senior year, he was the President of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. His summer months were devoted to helping his parents on the family farm in Wolcottville, but his summer evenings were dedicated to playing semi-pro fast pitch softball for the Dodge-Plymouth Northeast Indiana commercial team.
In September of 1952, Linus was drafted into the Army and dutifully served his country for the next two years in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was honorably discharged from active duty in 1954 and remained enlisted as Selective Service for the United States Army Reserves until being honorably discharged in 1961. After the Army, Linus went to work at Bendix Westinghouse in Elyria, OH where he met and eventually married Carolyn. In 1978, Bendix transferred him to Oklahoma City where he continued working until the plant closed in 1984. He went on to work at Deaconess Hospital until his retirement in 1993.
Linus was a proud member of Village Christian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder and past President of Christian Men’s Fellowship. He volunteered for BritVil Community Food Pantry for several years and loved devoting his time to helping those in need as well as making new and lasting friendships. One of Linus’s later passions in life was attending wood carving classes where he mastered the art of carving small birds and other animals.
Linus was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Pearl Affolder; his loving wife of 47 years, Carolyn Affolder; two brothers, Henry “Hank” Affolder and William Affolder; two sisters, Marian Jean Affolder and Margaret “Peg” (Affolder) Seckel.
Linus is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Kayli Affolder; two grandchildren, Caroline Grace and Gates Rigsby Affolder, of Oklahoma City; as well as many treasured nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Friday, January 17 at 1:30, at Village Christian Church, 9401 Ridgeview Drive, Oklahoma City.
