Paul's Obituary
Ostrander, The Rev. Paul C, 98, of Oklahoma City died January 28, 2025, in Oklahoma City.
Born October 27, 1926, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, Paul graduated from Ponca City High School. He attended University of Oklahoma on the GI Bill receiving his bachelor’s degree in Journalism. He later attended Seabury Western Episcopal Seminary in Evanston, IL and graduated from the Episcopal Theological Seminary in Lexington, Kentucky.
As a newspaperman Paul worked for several newspapers, including The Daily Oklahoman and Times. He served in the Navy during WWII in the Pacific. After his retirement from active ministry in 1990, he attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral.
Paul was ordained to the priesthood on October 17, 1968. He served numerous congregations over his many years of ministry as a priest including St. Paul’s Cathedral; St Timothy’s, Pauls Valley; St. Paul’s, Holdenville; St. Michael’s, Lindsey; St. John’s, Norman; Christ Memorial, El Reno and Church of the Nativity, Yukon. He served as editor of the Oklahoma Mission diocesan magazine and as communication office of the diocese. He also worked as a hospice chaplain.
Following his retirement, he and his wife Patsy served on the Diocesan Hispanic Commission in support of the establishment of Santa Maria Virgen in Oklahoma City. He continued to assist there on occasion reciting the liturgy in Spanish. Father Paul was faithful to his call to ordained ministry throughout his long life and continued to assist at weekday communion services at the Cathedral well into his 90’s.
Paul was preceded in his death by Joe Ann Ostrander, spouse, Patsy Ostrander, spouse, Thomas Eugene Ostrander, son, Kay Spence, stepdaughter.
He is survived by Michael Paul Ostrander, Mary Ostrander Helt, Tracy Patrick Ostrander, Elizabeth Dawson, Carol Curne, Ann Ramsey, Louis Dawson, Sarah Turner, 13 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 11am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Oklahoma City, The Rt Rev. Poulson Reed presiding. Interment will follow in the Columbarium of St. Paul’s.
