Roberta's Obituary
Roberta Rhea Cave was born July 23, 1927 in her grandparent’s home in Princeton, Texas to James Monroe Cave and Effie Gwendolyn Cave. They moved to Oklahoma City when she was an infant. Roberta was the oldest of 9 children and remained close to all of them as well as her Texas relatives throughout her life. Roberta died December 24, 2021.
Roberta graduated from Central High School in the Class of 1945 and remained close to many of those friends. She cherished their outings and socials. She married Herbert Keller in 1945 and had one child, Elizabeth. She was married to Bill Stalcup from 1972 to 1980. Roberta was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, and mother. She showed the same devotion as a friend, Christian, banker, financial secretary, volunteer, and patron of the arts. Roberta was an accomplished homemaker excelling in cooking, home décor, and sewing. The clothes she made for herself and Liz were stylish and professional. She was happiest when her home was filled with all of her family.
During her banking career, Roberta received awards and held offices in the American Institute of Banking, Oklahoma City Chapter of American Business Women’s Association, and the Oklahoma City Institute of Biblical Studies. Roberta enjoyed bowling, gardening, cooking, Tulsa Opera, Civic Music, McDowell, and patronized theatres and museums. Roberta served as a volunteer at Jewell Box Theatre and never missed a performance. Roberta served as Oklahoma Museum of Art Volunteer Association President, was an active docent and was later recruited to work for the museum because of her extensive knowledge of the collections and her enthusiasm. The transition to Oklahoma City Art Museum was a thrill and she cherished the people who worked there. She loved to travel and cherished trips with family.
Roberta adored her grandchildren and took them to many concerts, museums, exhibits, and activities. She fostered in them a broad legacy of cultural arts appreciation. Roberta worked three jobs during much of her professional career. She never stopped caring for others through cards, visitations, cooking, prayer and attending many events involving her nieces and nephews. She found special joy tutoring Roberto in Whiz Kids and became close to his family. Roberta lived the Christian life devoted to others. Fellowship with her sisters was a great joy and comfort.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents; brothers CH, Jimmy Joe, and Stephen Paul Cave; sisters Betty Ruth Potter (Paul) and Margie Faye Adams (Don); stepsons William and Rob Stalcup, and grandson Jonathan David Schmees. She is also survived by her church family of whom she held so dear.
Roberta lived a full life, sacrificing many things to ensure that her daughter had an education and a family to cherish. There were not enough minutes in many days for her to do all she wished and hoped to accomplished, but she lived in faith.
