Stephan's Obituary
Stephan Michael Piro, 67, of Norman, Oklahoma passed away on September 24, 2021 from complication battling a sudden illness. Stephan was born on July 22, 1954 at Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg, NJ to Stefano and Caroline Ann Azzalina Piro. He graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1972 and then joined the US Air Force in February 1973, where he served 12 years. He was stationed at Holloman AFB in Alamogordo, NM, Germany, and Tinker AFB in Midwest City, OK. He enrolled at the University of Oklahoma after serving and graduated in 1990 with a BA in Social Work. He embraced life and his Catholic faith and was professed into the Order of Secular Franciscans. His faith inspired him to learn about religious orders. While pursuing his religious faith, he was employed by Liberty Cleaners, Sodexo Services and the University of Oklahoma. He felt best about himself when he was helping and serving others. He never gave up the belief that everyone has decency in them. He believed in charitable works at a level few others could match. He was very devout in his Catholicism and tried to learn as much history about his faith as possible. His other interests included 1970s pop music, world history, science fiction, Mod Podge art, writing poetry, and his song lyric collection. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Anthony and Antonina Azzalina, His parents, Stefano and Caroline Azzalina Piro, his sister, Emily Carmella Piro-Bateman and brother, Michael Angelo Piro. He is survived by, a brother-in-law Michael A. Bateman or Albrightsville, PA, and cousin Joseph M. Butchko of Phillipsburg, NJ, along with other relatives and many friends, In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to the Secular Franciscan Order of Oklahoma City.
