Sylvia's Obituary

Sylvia, born to Francis (Frank) Wheeler and Bessie Ruth Wheeler (Perry) in Erick Oklahoma. Frank was a Methodist pastor, and her mother was a Methodist pastor daughter. Sylvia had the unique occurrence of having two birth certificates since her father was minister in two different towns.

Sylvia graduated from Capitol Hill High in 1956, while her father pastored Second Street Methodist.  Sylvia was a 50-year plus member of Chapel Hill United Methodist in OKC. She was a Cosmetologist for 60 plus years. Her Beauty Shops were always in her homes. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the DAR. Sylvia earned her Certified Alcohol and Drug Counseling certificate. She was in several 12-step programs for 40 plus years, where she helped many overcome their addictions. She touched numerous lives through her counsel. Along with husband Gene they operated half-way homes for persons in recovery. Phoenix Recovery Institute for homeless veterans is still in existence.

Sylvia is preceded in death by husband Gene, father, Francis Wheeler, mother, Bessie Ruth Wheeler. She is survived by son, David and daughter Dana Clifton (Bruce), grandchildren Amanda, Alicia Bailey (Morgan), Angela Mumford (Chris), Alaina, Lacy Baranski (Michael), Byron Henderson (Jamie), Shaiton McCrary, great grandchildren, Roman, Lilly, Murphy, Carter, Charly, Nalani, Devan, Gabe and one on the way, great-great grandsons Owen and Jaxon.
