Bud's Obituary


W. E. (Bud, Buddy, Buddy-Mac, Pap’s, Grandpa) McLean, Jr. was born on June 18, 1928 and claimed his great reward, to be with his Lord and Savior on August 30, 2022, at the age of 94. He was born to Wilbur and Anna McLean in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Bud graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1946. He Lettered in Football, Track, Baseball and was an All-State Player on the Basketball Team. He also was active in Student Council and Oklahoma Boys State. He attended Oklahoma State University (Oklahoma A&M) from 1946 to 1951 on a Basketball Scholarship where he played for the legendary Coach Henry Iba; and later was a Student Coach under Coach Iba. Bud’s dream was to coach basketball at the college level. He loved coaching his Son’s Little League Baseball & Basketball Teams; he also made an outstanding Armchair Coach!

He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon SAE Fraternity at OSU. He graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. While in college at Oklahoma State he was active in the R.O.T.C. and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He served on active duty in the U.S.A.F. in both Japan and Korea. Bud worked in the Oil and Gas industry for 52 years and ended his career with Kerr-McGee Oil & Gas Corporation (29 years) as General Manager of the Real Estate Division, retiring in 1982. 

In 1954, he married Kova Lee (Mobley) McLean and they made their home in Oklahoma City. They celebrated their 68th Wedding Anniversary May 8th, 2022. Bud and Kova had 3 Sons: Randy, Chris and Matt. Bud is survived by his wife Kova Lee, Randy and his Wife Dana (Phoenix, AZ), Chris and his Wife Kim (Roanoke, TX), Matt and his Wife Amber (Edmond, OK). Grandchildren Dara and her Husband Steven, Mauri and her Husband Kenny, Chase and his Wife Madison, Gabrielle, Mitchell, Tyler and his Wife Kim, Brandon and his Wife Zanada, and Austin McLean. Great Grand Children Noah, Harlow, Jett, Aden, Eliana, Koen, Jace, Sloane, and Josie. 

Bud was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Oklahoma City since 1955; he served the Lord and his Church Family as an Elder, Deacon, Trustee and Endowment Board Member. He had a kind heart and a caring nature and was a friend to all. Bud loved to play golf, having played the best golf courses throughout the USA. He volunteered at Lake Hefner Golf Club for over 22 years and loved attending OU football games. Later in life he looked forward to his weekly Saturday morning stops at Bill Kamp’s Meat Market. Bill and the Guy’s nicknamed him “The Senator”.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1pm Friday, September 9, 2022 in the Chapel at First Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City (1001 N.W. 25th Street, OKC, OK). A reception at the Church for friends and family will follow the service. The family would like to thank everyone who has already reached out to express their condolences and the impact Bud/Dad/Pap’s/Grandpa has made in their life.
